Training plans for famous American running races
TERUN doesn't build a separate plan per race — it builds one sized to the distance, paced from your own running data, and periodized to your start date.
Whether you're running the Peachtree on the Fourth of July or a local Turkey Trot, the training principle is the same: pick the plan for your race's distance below, and TERUN fills in the paces, the build-up and the taper from your current fitness.
5K
- Carlsbad 5000 — Carlsbad, CA, marketed as "the world's fastest 5K."
- Freihofer's Run for Women — Albany, NY, June.
- Turkey Trot — run in dozens of cities (including Buffalo, NY and Dallas, TX) every Thanksgiving, typically 5K or 8K.
- Komen Race for the Cure — multiple cities, breast-cancer charity run.
- BOLT 5K — Boston, MA.
- Susan G. Komen 3-Day/5K — multiple cities.
- Los Angeles Big 5K — Los Angeles, CA.
- Hot Chocolate 5K — run in multiple cities as part of the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K series.
- Rock 'n' Roll 5K — part of the Rock 'n' Roll series (San Diego, Nashville and other cities).
All of these are a straight match for the adaptive training plan — there's no separate 5K page, so set 5K as your goal distance there.
10K
- AJC Peachtree Road Race — Atlanta, GA, the world's largest 10K with roughly 60,000 runners, held every July 4th.
- Bolder Boulder — Boulder, CO, Memorial Day.
- Cooper River Bridge Run — Charleston, SC, April.
- Dam to Dam — Des Moines, IA, 20K or 10K.
- Beach to Beacon 10K — Cape Elizabeth, ME, August.
- Turkey Trot 10K — the 10K option at several Turkey Trot cities, including Detroit, MI.
- Save the Bay 10K — Providence, RI.
- Applefest 10K — an annual autumn classic run in a number of smaller US towns.
- Los Angeles Big 10K — Los Angeles, CA.
- Rock 'n' Roll 10K — part of the Rock 'n' Roll series.
The 10K training plan is built for exactly this: short and intense, with paces that have to be right.
10 mile
- Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run — Washington, D.C., April.
- Broad Street Run — Philadelphia, PA, May.
- Crim Festival of Races — Flint, MI, August.
There's no dedicated 10-mile page; use the adaptive training plan and set 10 mile as your distance.
Part of a marathon weekend
Not ready for the full marathon yet? This event's shorter distances run alongside it:
- Marine Corps 10K / 17.75K — Washington, D.C., part of Marine Corps Marathon weekend.

Other well-known distances & race series
A few American classics fall between TERUN's supported distances. Use whichever of the 10K or adaptive plan (10 mile) is closer to your race's actual distance and timeline:
- Falmouth Road Race — Falmouth, MA, 7 miles (11.3 km), August.
- Bloomsday Run — Spokane, WA, 12 km, May.
- Utica Boilermaker Road Race — Utica, NY, 15 km, July.
- Manchester Road Race — Manchester, CT, 4.748 miles, Thanksgiving.
- Bay to Breakers — San Francisco, CA, 12 km, May.
- Gasparilla Distance Classic — Tampa, FL, 15K/5K/8K/8-mile options, February.
- St. Patrick's Day 5 Mile — Washington, D.C.
- Chicago Shamrock Shuffle — Chicago, IL, 8K, March.
- Hot Chocolate 15K — the 15K option of the Hot Chocolate series.
- New Balance 5th Avenue Mile — New York, NY, 1 mile (elite and open fields), September.
Same principle, every distance. TERUN doesn't look at your race's name — it looks at your own pace and heart-rate data and how much time is left until your start date. Pick the plan closest to your race's distance and it periodizes toward it automatically.
