How TERUN compares to Runna, URUNN, Hardlopen met Evy and JOIN
Four real, well-regarded apps, one different approach: TERUN's plan comes from your own pace and heart-rate data, not a subscription tier or a fixed template.
If you're comparing running apps, you've probably come across Runna, URUNN, Hardlopen met Evy, or JOIN. They're all built by people who know running, and for a lot of runners they're a good fit. This page is a factual comparison, not a takedown — here's specifically how TERUN's approach differs, and where one of the others might genuinely suit you better.
Runna
Runna builds plans designed by named coaches, including Olympian Steph Davis, syncs to Garmin, Apple Watch, COROS, Suunto and Fitbit, and bundles in strength, mobility and Pilates sessions. It's a subscription: $19.99/month or $119.99/year, recently bundled with Strava (which acquired Runna) for $149.99/year. TERUN differs in two ways: it's free, and instead of picking a coach-designed tier, your paces come from an algorithm reading your own measured pace and heart-rate data every week.
URUNN
URUNN, co-founded by Sir Mo Farah and fitness-tech company WithU, builds personalized plans that flex around real-life disruptions like injuries or holidays, for £12.99/month or £93.99/year with a 7-day free trial. TERUN's plans flex too, but from your measured fitness trend rather than manual rescheduling, and there's no subscription at all.
Hardlopen met Evy
Hardlopen met Evy (Energy Lab / Golazo) is used by over a million runners in the Netherlands and Belgium. It offers 25 pre-written schedules across six distances that adjust in difficulty and add strength exercises based on your post-run feedback, for €2.99/month or €12.99/year. TERUN takes a different starting point: instead of choosing one of a fixed set of schedules, it derives your tempo's directly from your pace and heart-rate history and recalculates them — not just the difficulty — every single week.
JOIN
JOIN is primarily a cycling coaching app; running is a supported add-on for cyclists who also run. By JOIN's own description, it isn't built to prepare you for a running event on its own. If running is your actual goal rather than a complement to cycling training, TERUN is built specifically and only for that: 5K to marathon, nothing else.
When one of the others is the better fit. If you want a named human coach's programming, a wider strength/mobility library, or you're primarily training for cycling with running on the side, Runna, URUNN or JOIN may serve you better than an algorithm-only plan. TERUN is built for runners who want their plan derived purely from their own data, for free.
Try it with your own data
See the difference directly: connect your running data and TERUN builds a free plan from it in a few minutes, no trial period or subscription to cancel later.
